Who should / can we get as next coach ?

The mission is almost accomplished.

In November of 2008 this site was born with a simple but challenging goal.....to have Coach Mark Richt replaced with a football coach that can lead us to a national championship.

We are almost there. Coach Richt's organization is imploding. Arrests and losses are mounting by the week.

Finally...after 3 long years, the fans are starting to galvanize around the same goal....Fire Mark Richt!!

Rise up and continue to put pressure on UGA to make some changes. The fight is only beginning. We need your postings and comments to send a message to the UGA community.

The founders of FMR.net would like to thank all of our early supporters that went against conventional wisdom and realized the Coach Richt was not the right man for the job. Now that the balance of the fan base has seen the light, it is time to finish the job. Do not stop....the end is near.

Who should / can we get as next coach ?

I hoped we'd have sacked Richt before Muschamp left Texas but no we sat on our hands and Adams keeps playing his violin like Nero as the Dawg Nation burned -- gotta protect your boy Adams. Then I thought they'd sack Richt after the last game and go get Kirby Smart -- even Kirby wouldn't come last year as our DC cause everyone who coaches in the SEC knows Richt and his sorry ass coaches are going down in flames -- but I'd bet you a damn 100 bucks he'd take a head coaching job at his Alma Mater. Please go get Kirby now before it's too late -- but they won't. Jesus and Richt are tight and we'd rather have Jesus Richt than a respectible program. Adams is a hypocrit -- should have fired Richt for the 11 arrests alone -- remember he sacked Donnan for the same thing and sacked Dooley unceremoniously cause he was gonna clean up the whole program -- yeah right -- where's Adams now ? His freaking AD was fired for driving down Roswell road getting a BJ while driving drunk. If we loose Kirby (and we probably will), then we're faced with going after all the other big names and I can tell you that I don't believe anyone will come to UGA as long as Adams is the president. Let me hear other thoughts though cause right now I don't see any hope for a getting a quality replacement.

OK, here's my less angry thoughts since the God awful UCF game:

1) Richt will stay cause we don't want to pay him 7 big ones this year. I think the buyout after next year drops to 2.5 M to 3M.

2) Sonny gets ripped and flies his copter to Athens (I've seen him soused many a time and flying around in his State copter) - he does the Lyndon Johnson deal and puts his arm around Adams and says to him "Boy, I'd hate to see you having to find a new job son but if you can't fix the Jawja football program, well uh son, I'm going to have to boot your ass outta here." Adams pissed his pants and grows some survival balls and offers Kirby Smart the deal of the century.

3) Sonny then funnels large amounts of cash to the top recruits familys in the state and locks up the state for Kirby. Then Sonny pours a large glass of JD and takes a big drink and barks like a Dawg.

4) Sonny then orders the Corp of engineers to stop sending anymore water to Florida so the all the gators die like the gutless reptiles they are.

Sorry I needed some levity to break up my Alumni anger. There is some hope tonight, Alabama scores top running back recruit from Missouri who de-committed from MECHIGAN and is now going to Bama. Couple that with scuttlebut that the "dream team" is going to sign with UGA no matter how we sucked against UCF, then at least we get a great recruiting class. That sets the stage to bounce Richt in 2012 when his buyout is 2.5-3.0M and the cupboard is stocked with some damn good ball players. Richt and his Keystone Cops of a coaching staff go 7 and 6 or 8 and 5 and get sent packing. Kirby's waiting in the wings. Course the rumor mill says Kirby goes to the gutless gators with Willy M (Will's new name) -- if that happens who knows who we get ... Maybe Urban Meyer after his one year being off and watching Oprah reruns all day makes him get back to coaching.

Recruiting classes are no guarantee of anything. Many top recruits take years to develop and many more never come close to their potential because they're too stupid to grasp the schemes or too cocky to put in the work necessary to move to the next level. Do the words Virginia Tech ring a bell? We always hear about "Beamer ball" yet despite recruiting the majority of talent (and convicts) in Virginia, the program always seems to have a never-ending supply of thugs too stupid to tie their own shoes. The supposed "make or break" recruit for UGA this year Isaiah Crowell. He averaged about 11 yards per carry in high-school. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not) but didn't Ealey average about that? How's that working out? Ealey can't read blocks and can't hold onto the freakin' ball because, like Caleb King, he's often carrying the ball in the wrong hand since coaches let him get away with that crap before he got to UGA. As everyone knows, Richt and his staff seem to have some phobia about teaching and enforcing fundamentals like protecting the ball, maintaining blocks, maintaining defensive assignments, tackling, etc. For instance, what is the #1 rule on defense if a lineman or blitzing player cannot get to the QB? Get your arms up to block the pass or take away throwing lanes! Under Van Gorder, UGA used to knock down or deflect a lot of passes. How many passes did UGA block this year? Hell, even against that duck and chuck QB from CFU, UGA players didn't do it. My point is that while talent is great, coaching is a far bigger factor at the collegiate level than many want to admit and, much like the players who don't practice fundamentals, many coaches aren't teaching them.

I don't buy into the mode of thinking that there is an extremely small, finite number of good coaches. There are many good head coaches and assistants out there at various levels. Someone mentioned Holtz but he really wasn't that great a coach. He was a good recruiter for Notre Dame and at least taught fundamentals. However, at SC, his lack of offensive skill in terms of working with the talent he had was glaring. At Notre Dame, he had enough good backs as well as Rocket Ismail to use his desired, option-based offense though he changed it somewhat when Rick Mirer came along. He also had guys like Mike Stonebreaker and Chris Zorich on defense. South Carolina has also largely been cherry picked for years by other SEC and ACC schools. Hell, Tony Rice was FROM South Carolina. What does that tell you about the recruiting strength of SC in its own state? There are several 1-AA (FCS) programs that put team into the running for the national title every year like Delaware and William & Mary. This kind of thing isn't a fluke. Why is UGA not looking at coaches like that? Richt, while a nice guy, is neither respected nor feared by his team and that's not a good combination. He tries to be a friend to the players and like the old fable goes, familiarity breeds contempt.

I support Richt. Having said that, as long as Adams runs the show, no big name coach will come to Athens. I truly believe that Terry Bowden would win us a national title in 3 years, but I doubt he would receive any serious consideration.

If Richt does get fired. McGarity will make a strong run at making Dan Mullen the next UGA coach. His second choice would be Kirby Smart, but I think he will need to get a proven head coach. We have already seen what Mullen's can do in a short time. Heck he won right away with Croom's recruits. We just have to hope the Mullen gets a big time DC because the one he has right now at MSU is suspect.

Dooley is not a proven coach. I think he would be a great coach, but trading Richt for Dooley would be a huge gamble.
